The last 2 days I’ve had less on my “to do” list than normal. After a super busy 4 days, the days I have off now are actually relaxing. Whether this was an intentional or coincidental occurrence it has left me with, what do you call it “ FREE TIME”. What do I do with free time? I rarely have real down time where no one needs me. So after some household chores, a walk, dinner prep, a shower, I’m left here with one glorious hour of free time. So I write ! Without an outcome, without an intention, without an expectation, I write.
I’ve been in my head ALOT this week and what I’ve come to realize is there is a lot in there that is completely irrelevant and will never amount to reality- it's the conversation I play over and over that I think I should have with someone, or the plan for my business, my upcoming week, what I’m going say to the bank manager next time I'm in to complain about my last banking experience, my opinion on this last shutdown, on vaccines, on how I could justify my beliefs to those who believe in something else. Really there is so much chatter in there that not only distracts me but causes an emotional rise in me. These conversations in my head take me right out of the present moment and into a spiral of overwhelm, impatience, frustration and anger. What if there was some room for empty space with more attention on the present moment- less worry about the future. Just thinking about this makes me feel more calm instantly. This moment is all there is. There is actually no future self, no future made up conversation. This is all I have. And so how do I choose to spend my precious present time as I know time will tick on and events will occur.
Can I be present enough to notice life unfolding in perfection around me?
Can I feel the energy of my body enough to know how to nourish it and know what it needs?
Can I stop, find stillness and feel calm amidst the chaos of life right now?
Can I slow down my thoughts enough to become witness to the constant chatter?
Invite in space and rest in between your thoughts where there is calm, where there is peace. Get present your surroundings, the temperature of the air, the sounds in the room, the feel of the chair or couch you're sitting on. Take it all in. Be fully present in this moment and then with the next. Make this a daily practice that will bring peace and calm to your busy mind.
