What do you want? What do you really really want?
This question can be answered for the simplest of things. Right now it’s early morning and I want a coffee. I also want to write, because writing for me each morning is part of my self care routine.
Deeper though, what do you want out of your relationships, your career, your finances? I know for me I don’t give too much thought to what I truly want on a daily basis. Strangely this doesn’t stop me from lamenting about the things I don’t have or wish I had. It can be easier to complain than to take action. But what if you did give attention to what you wan on a daily basis? Not in a wishful thinking way, but in an intentional, actionable way. How would your day unfold?
See, our brains function efficiently when there’s a known routine. It takes less energy to fall into a daily pattern than to think about the bigger picture. Once we have a routine or habits established they become ingrained deeply which puts us on auto pilot. And that’s great for some things. I have an exercise schedule, a writing schedule, a yoga schedule, a meditation schedule and I even have an eating routine during the week- same type of lunch all week long!! This isn’t bad, in fact it makes my life much easier…. Less thinking involved. Where I can get stuck though, is in doing things that no longer bring me joy and fulfillment. I do them because, well, I’ve always done them.
Taking some time each day to get clear on what you really want, will give more clarity on the things that bring you the most joy. From here you take action to bring more of those things into your life. This allows you to break up the default that has become the “daily grind” and lead you onto a more fulfilling path. Once you do this the universe shifts to line up with your focused intentions and you are now in a space to receive more of what you truly want.
